Final Post

Biology 11 was definitely a course that was full of information but it was also enjoyable. Some main concepts I learned in Bio were evolution (and the trends within it), characteristics of living things, cell parts/functions, DNA, drawing magnification/specimen actual size and classification based on many things. One thing I would want to change about what I did in Bio would be dissecting, I didn't dissect this year but helped out with the dissections because I did not want to cut into the specimens. For me the most interesting parts of Bio were our class discussions because of how some people answered or just asked their questions, learning about the animal kingdom and our field trip. Overall Bio 11 has been a great experience for me because I learned many new things but I also had fun at the same time.

Aquarium Field Trip

This is a picture taken by me of a stingray I saw at the aquarium. The ray interested me because it is different from most fish because it moves by flapping its "wings" and stingray bellies can also have interesting designs (sometimes looking like a face). The ray is from the phylum Chordata, class Chondrichthyes and a distinguishing characteristic that puts the ray into that class is it's endoskeleton which is entirely made up of cartilage.

Arthropods

I find this moth interesting because of it's colour and the patterns on it's body. They help it hide and also help it confuse predators. One fact that stood out to me about them is that they can fly as fast as songbirds which is pretty amazing considering how small they are. Some characteristics of arthropods are: segmented body, jointed appendages, many pairs of limbs and they have bilateral symmetry.
